Avec une seule victoire lors des 5 derniers matches et une nouvelle défaite mercredi en Ligue des champions ŕ Leverkusen (2-1), André Villas-Boas, manager portugais de Chelsea, est déjŕ sous pression alors qu'il n'est arrivé au club qu'en juillet dernier.
Il a demandé Å• ses joueurs de venir s'entrainer jeudi matin alors qu'ils devaient avoir la journée de libre. C'est dire si les choses vont mal dans l'ouest de Londres. Mercredi soir, en terre allemande, Chelsea a encore perdu, encore encaissé deux buts aprÍs de choquantes erreurs défensives et la morsure de l'humiliante défaite face Å• Arsenal (5-3) Å• Stamford Bridge le 29 octobre, n'en finit plus de diffuser son venin.
Dimanche dernier, aprÍs la deuxiÍme défaite en championnat de suite Å• domicile de son équipe, pour la premiÍre fois depuis prÍs de dix ans, Villas-Boas, un brin arrogant, avait défié la presse anglaise: "Le patron (Abramovich, le propriétaire du club, ndlr) n'a pas dépensé 15 millions d'euros pour me recruter Å• Porto pour dépenser une autre fortune pour me virer quatre mois plus tard. Il est derriÍre nous".
Pourtant, aprÍs un nouveau revers, la cote du Portugais est en chute libre. Et les critiques affluent. La déconvenue de Leverkusen a rendu incertaine la qualification des Blues pour les huitiÍmes de finale de la Ligue des champions, qui est l'objectif absolu du club et d'Abramovich. Lors du dernier match de la poule, face au FC Valence, Å• domicile le 6 décembre, Villas-Boas aura un épée de DamoclÍs au dessus de la tĂ'te. Une élimination aurait des répercussions catastrophiques sur le club mais surtout sur le manager.
A 34 ans, et avec une expérience (certes réussie) de seulement trois saisons Å• Porto, Villas-Boas montre déjÅ• quelques limites: ses changements en cours de match mercredi (notamment Alex) ont déstabilisé son équipe, son peu d'attachement au travail défensif interpelle également et ses choix étonnent souvent. Annoncé comme le successeur de Mourinho, il est loin de son illustre prédécesseur. "AVB" a déjÅ• perdu quatre fois en 12 matches de championnat alors que le Special One ne s'était incliné qu'Å• une seule occasion lors de sa premiÍre saison !
Petr Cech a cependant pris la défense de son entraineur jeudi. "Ce n'est pas lui qui est sur le terrain. C'est nous qui jouons et qui faisons des fautes. Depuis le banc, il ne peut rien faire face ŕ nos erreurs individuelles" a notamment confié l'ancien gardien Rennais sur le site internet du club.
C'est vrai que pour sa défense, le vainqueur de l'Europa League l'an passé n'a pas été aidé par les nombreuses bourdes de ses joueurs, de John Terry ŕ Petr Cech en passant par John Obi Mikel ou Ashley Cole.
Mais il n'a pas non plus su mettre un terme aux errements flagrants de son équipe.
L'adage dit: dans la tourmente les grands entraineurs se relÍvent toujours. Les prochaines semaines, au cours desquelles Chelsea affrontera notamment Valence, Tottenham et Manchester City, diront si "AVB" est un grand ou pas. Et décideront surtout de son avenir.

John Terry a debutat la Chelsea in 1998, intr-un meci de Cupa Ligii in care i-a luat locul chiar lui Dan Petrescu. Enervat de decizia luata de pe margine, Petrescu a refuzat sa dea mana cu Terry. JT a dezvaluit intr-un interviu acordat in 2008 Chelsea TV ca Petrescu i-a dat un sut in fund la primul antrenament pe care l-a facut cu echipa mare dupa ce fusese promovat de la juniori.
Chelsea Football Club can confirm Didier Drogba will be leaving the club when his contract expires at the end of June.
Didier has spent eight years at Chelsea, and everyone at the club would like to thank him for his service and wish him luck and continued success for the future.
Chelsea Chief Executive Ron Gourlay said: 'Didier is undoubtedly a Chelsea legend and will always be part of the Chelsea family. He is certainly leaving on a high after Saturday night but he feels the time is right for a new challenge.
'Of course Didier has contributed so much to all of Chelsea's recent successes. He has been a consummate professional during his entire time here and as one of the natural leaders in our squad he has been an inspiration to a lot of our younger players.
'We have known for some time that this outcome was likely but Didier and the club only made a final decision on that in the last couple of days, because for obvious reasons neither Didier nor the club wanted to distract focus away from the Champions League Final.
'The talks were amicable all the way through and we wish him all the best for the future. He is welcome back to Stamford Bridge at any time - either as a player or as a guest of ours.'
Didier leaves Chelsea having scored 157 goals in 341 appearances. He is the club's fourth all-time highest scorer, his 34 goals in European competition is a Chelsea record by 10 goals and his nine strikes in nine cup finals has contributed immensely to the most successful period in the club's history.
He won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two Carling Cups and now, in the most dramatic and glorious of circumstances, the Champions League. He has been named Chelsea's Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year and won the Premier League Golden Boot twice.
The 34-year-old said: 'I wanted to put an end to all the speculation and confirm that I am leaving Chelsea. It has been a very difficult decision for me to make and I am very proud of what we have achieved but the time is right for a new challenge for me.
'As a team we have accomplished so much and have won every single trophy possible. Saturday was a very special moment for everyone at the club and for all the fans, and I am very proud to have played my part in bringing many trophies to this club, which has been my home for the last eight years.
'I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at the club especially Roman and my team-mates, many of whom have become very close friends and will be my friends for life. I would also like to say a very special thank you to the Chelsea fans who have shown me so much love and support over the years.

Asadar, a obtinut doua penalty-uri + 3 assist-uri clasice. Intr-adevar, echipe aparent slabe Wigan si Reading, dar altii au pierdut puncte cu echipele slabe.

If any Chelsea fan is baffled by Roman Abramovich's approach to Frank Lampard's contract, they need just look across town to White Hart Lane.
After an early stumble, Andre Villas-Boas is doing everything at Tottenham that Abramovich was convinced he was capable of as Chelsea manager. And whether it was by fault or design, Lampard has been fingered as part of the clique that stood in the way of the owner's grand plan of regeneration.
Where AVB was met with resistance at Chelsea, he's been encouraged by the senior players' group at Spurs. In contrast to the confrontation and ridicule he suffered through at Stamford Bridge, there's been understanding and professionalism from the Spurs squad.
It won't have been lost on Abramovich that unlike his Chelsea counterparts, Brad Friedel not only accepted being phased out for Hugo Lloris by AVB, but actually publicly supported the decision. The Portuguese is now winning over a skeptical London press. Indeed, just in the last week he left a great impression on the world-weary pack when asking after Brian Glanville's poorly wife at the end of his regular presser.
The Spurs manager is showing all the qualities that Abramovich's own research had led him to paying Porto a record £13.3 million to bring the former scout back to London. Add the £8 million shelled out in compensation to Villas-Boas after his dismissal - and its been a massively expensive failure for the Russian.
But, despite the huge outlay, for the billionaire, it was an even greater personal blow. AVB was his bet. Jose Mourinho was recommended by super agent Pini Zahavi, ex-chief executive Peter Kenyon pushed Luiz Felipe Scolari's name and Carlo Ancelotti was recommended by former football director Frank Arnesen.
Villas-Boas was Abramovich's man. Before his appointment, the pair had sat down to discuss overhauling an ageing squad, driving through a new club culture and improving the style of play. But they hadn't reckoned on the hold the senior players had on the club.
At Spurs, free of the obstruction, Villas-Boas has thrived. Making it all the more frustrating for Abramovich is that he's doing so without the need for a football director nor chief executive, which had been partly blamed for his problems at Chelsea.
It all comes back to the player culture at the Bridge.
The Champions League triumph only delayed the inevitable. Didier Drogba was quickly escorted out the building. Lampard and Ashley Cole will be next - and John Terry's days are also surely numbered.
Perhaps the behaviour at Chelsea was no better symbolised recently than by Terry choosing to warm-up for the game immediately after Roberto di Matteo's sacking by wearing the Italian's former No16 shirt. It's staggering that, for all the warnings making their way to the local press from club sources, Terry should still make this show of defiance. How else can Abramovich read the gesture other than a protest against his decision-making? And so similar to all resistance Abramovich saw Villas-Boas experience the previous season.
With less than 18 months on his contract, the fate of the club captain is likely to follow the same as Lampard and Cole's.
The fear that Abramovich's stand will leave Chelsea devoid of leadership is overblown. A quiet transformation has been underway within the Blues dressing room since Drogba's departure. New leaders are emerging. It was Petr Cech who could be heard berating teammates after their defeat to West Bromwich Albion earlier this season. While last week, Branislav Ivanovic had to be calmed down by coaching staff after his calamitous display against Swansea City. Even the intelligent, engaging Juan Mata was spotted gesticulating and demanding better from teammate David Luiz during victory at Stoke City.
A new breed of leadership is developing at Chelsea and if Abramovich gets his way, a new club culture.
