Hi,

Just wanted to introduce myself to you all. I'm a Bristol Rovers fan from England and my father has just moved to your great city. He went to the Cluj game last night and called me just before kick off the say how crazy it was over there and was loving it. I watched the game on the internet and am hopefully going to be heading over soon to come to a game and will keep following Steaua online.

If any of you are interested in English football then look out for Bristol Rovers, on Sunday we play in the FA Cup quarter finals for a place in the semis at Wembley which for us would be massive so keep your fingers crossed for us!

See you soon forzateaua

Dan

We are playing West Bromwich Albion, they're in the league above us but we are at home so we could beat them. Liverpool?

How did you guessed?

Most people support Man U or Liverpool  , no love for Bristol Rovers :sad2:

When was the last time Steaua played in England and did anyone on here go? I'm looking forward to coming over and watching a game, the only football match I've been to outside England was an MLS game in New York, it was boring, no fans! I've been looking at a few videos on Youtube of the Ultras and it looks amazing.

Steaua played Arsenal in the Champions League this year! There were many supporters from Romania at the Emirates Stadium!

Bristol Rovers are not that well known in Romania. I only heard about this club when i was playing manager.

We also played southampton, Liverpool and middlesborough in the last years...

I like very much your logo.

We defeated Southampton to get to the quarter finals of the FA Cup. We're not a very big club but the atmosphere is good and we're getting better and better. Our arch rivals Bristol City are top of The Championship and are likely to be playing in the Premier League next season :cursing:

I don't remember the games you've played against English clubs because I don't really follow any of the premier league teams, I've been to a few games in that league and the fans are too quiet because it costs too much for a ticket and the stadiums are full of people with lots of money and not much love for the clubs. I'm looking forward to seeing your team, I'd obviously heard of Steaua as they are a big team with a good history. I also want to experience the passion of Eastern European football, I've heard very good things about it.

Thanks. Bristol is a port in the south of England and rover means traveller so it made sense for us to be know as the Pirates. We are also known as "The Gas" because our old stadium used to be next to a gas works and there was a strong smell of gas all the time. Our fans are known as Gasheads.

Our biggest game is recent years was the play-off final at Wembley last season (see youtube video below) we won and got promomoted, we had 40,000 fans at the game.

MoWeed03.03.2008 19:41

Well if premier league fans are quiet you will certantly see a great differente between them and the Steaua fans.

We also have quiet fans in the most expensive sectors of the stadium but the fans in the stands behind the two goals compensate for that.

After the UEFA cup semifinal against Steaua one of the Boro players said that the atmosfere on the match played in Bucharest was terrfying for him...

I can imagine he was scared, I've seen the videos on Youtube and it does look incredible, Boro players are a bunch of girls though.

Is there an online shop for Steaua? hopefully my dad's getting me a replica shirt and sending it to England but would like to have a look at other things like scarfs and flags.

MoWeed03.03.2008 20:51

There is an online store but it's not open yet. You can only see the products after 17 march you will be able to buy

Our stadium holds about 12,000 and our average attendance is about 8,000. We sold out for our games against West Ham, Southampton, Leeds Utd, Fulham and Sunday's game against West Brom. As you can see from the pictures below it's not the best stadium, in fact it's shit!

From next season we will be sharing the stadium of Cheltenham Town for 18 months and building a new stadium for us. It will look like this -

We are all looking forward to this but are worried that an all-seater stadium will ruin our atmosphere.

MoWeed04.03.2008 06:01

Nice plans for the new stadium.

Our home stadium is also an all-seater stadium so it doesn't necesarily ruins the atmosphere...

Do you have regulations there about sitting down? I england's all-seater stadiums most clubs don't allow fans to stand up during play, obviously it's ok if the team scores or you need a piss but it's one of the main reasons the atmosphere is ruined by seating.

How long has your stadium been all-seater and how much difference has it made? I can imagine it would have been a bit crazy in your stands behind the goals when Steaua scored and there were no seats.

MoWeed04.03.2008 15:23

We don't have regulations that prohibit sitting up. The seats didn't make a difference because we are allowed to sit up as much as we want.

The stadium is an all-seater for more than 10 years. It is the first or the secound all-seater stadium in Romania. Therefore I don't qiute know how the atmosphere was(i'm only 19 years old and i'm not from bucharest so i couldn't go at the games when i was a kid).

1on07.03.2008 23:33

Usually, when the fans are chanting, they stand with the feet on the seat. It's not a problem that.

Steaua have met these English teams in European Cups:

Aston Villa Birmingham 1997-1998 UEFA Cup, 3rd round, 2-1 (at Ghencea), 0-2 (at Birmingham)

Arsenal Londra 2007-2008 UCL, groupe H, 0-1 (Ghencea), 1-2 (Emirates)

Liverpool FC 2003-2004 UEFA Cup, 2nd round, 1-1 (Ghencea), 0-1 (Liverpool)

Middlesbrough FC 2005-2006 UEFA Cup, semifinal, 1-0 (Ghencea), 2-4 (Boro)

Southampton FC 2003-2004 UEFA Cup, 1st round, 1-1 (Southampton), 1-0 (Ghencea)

West Ham United 1999-2000 UEFA Cup, 2nd round, 2-0 (Ghencea), 0-0 (West Ham)

My favourite team is Chelsea since Dan Petrescu (a forme player of Steaua too), played for them. I remember the team who reached UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, with Ed de Goey, Gustavo Poyet, Celestine Babayaro, Roberto Di Matteo, Dennis Wise (a very ambitious player), Tore-Andre Flo, Giafranco Zola, Chris Sutton, Marcel Dessailly, Didier Deschamps, Gianluca Vialli (manager). A loved that team, opposing to the "Abramovici Era".

Yes, we're out!!

We didn't deserve to lose by that much but West Brom were far too good for us, dream over and back to the league.

I got my new Steaua shirt in the post today, it's really nice!

MoWeed12.03.2008 05:56

Well at least you made it to the quarter-finals. Maybe you'll have better luck next year. good luck in the championship...
